It’s always nice to be able to venture off and spend the day outside of the norm. Taking a break from normal activities in your town or just trying something new will keep you loving where you live. So skip your normal weekend plans or take a day off during the week to take a day trip outside of Grand Junction. Colorado has so many great activities and places to visit that are bound to keep your day filled with excitement or even relaxation, depending on what you’re looking for.

Below are some great ideas on what to do with your day outside of Grand Junction.

  • Discover Moab, Utah

Arches National Park is a quick 2-hour drive from Grand Junction and is full of beautiful red rock arches. The perfect way to stay outdoors and discover a new place!

  • Black Canyon in Gunnison National Park

A good day trip or a quick overnighter! Pack your tent and visit Black Canyon, a little outside Montrose and be prepared to soak in some incredible views once the sun sets. Star gazing is a favorite activity while camping at Black Canyon.

  • Relax and soak in Glenwood

Just east of Grand Junction, Glenwood Springs is known for being home to one of the largest natural hot springs. On top of the hot springs, there is a 16-mile recreational path to enjoy a scenic bike ride while riding along the Colorado River.

  • Rifle Gap State Park

If you love just being by the water, this is the perfect day trip for you! The 350-acre reservoir within the park provides the best boating, fishing, jet skiing and water-skiing in the area! If you want to make it an overnight trip, there is camping and RV parking, with hook-ups.

  • Visit Redstone Castle

Home to John Cleveland Osgood, who became the 6th wealthiest man in 1900. Come take a tour through this awesome part of Colorado’s history that has been used as a set in movies more recently and is now re-open for the public to explore.
