Planning the Perfect Fourth of July BBQ

The Fourth of July will be here soon and if you are planning on throwing a last-minute BBQ for your friends and family and want to make it look like it took you weeks to plan here are some quick ideas to help throw a memorable and festive party.

Party decorations

With most parties having a theme makes decorating easy. Throwing a patriotic fourth of July party with coordinating decorations can be done by adding some red, white and blue to your backyard. You can find inexpensive patriotic party supplies at your local dollar store or party store. Pick up some red or blue plastic tablecloth covers and coordinate with matching paper plates, cups, silverware and napkins. Get some small American flags they look great in mason jars or glass flower vases.  If weather permits add some balloons too!

Food

The food is usually the most important part of planning a BBQ. To start think simple with big bowls filled with chips, pretzels, and dips. Hamburgers, hot dogs and chicken are always crowd pleasers, but you can be creative and bring some Fourth of July festivity to your food. Look online specifically at Pinterest for ideas and recipes on how to create festive fruit kabobs or flag themed cakes and cookies.

Drinks

Bottled water, soda, and juice boxes for the kids are a staple at any barbecue but don’t let your festive Fourth of July theme lag when it comes to beverages. Add some blueberries, raspberries or strawberries to your ice trays to make some easy festive ice cubes that can be added to any drink. Make a summery watermelon lemonade or blue long island ice tea for the adults. If you really want to add some festiveness to your drinks pick up a small red white and blue kiddie pool and fill it with ice. You can put your bottled waters and soda in it and not only will it be a great addition to your decorations, but it makes beverages easily accessible to your guests.

Games

Having some outdoor activities is always a plus for entertaining guests at a BBQ. If you don’t have any backyard games, ask your guests to bring them. A shuffleboard can easily be spray painted into a patriotic flag to keep with your theme. Water balloons and sparklers for the kids will keep the little ones entertained too.
