The City of Grand Junction will be hosting a Coalition for the Homeless on Thursday, January 20th, 2022, at St. Mary’s Hospital. The event will begin at 10:00 am in the Saccomanno Room #3, located on the 5th Floor.
According to their website, The National Homeless Coalition is: “committed to creating the systemic and attitudinal changes necessary to prevent and end homelessness.”
They are composed of a network of activists and advocates, community-based and faith-based service providers, as well as people who are currently experiencing or who have experienced homelessness, and others. Together, they are committed to a single mission: To prevent and end homelessness while advocating that the immediate needs of those experiencing homelessness are met. They have a vision of a world where everyone can experience safe, decent, affordable, and accessible homes
Their first principle of practice is for those who have formerly experienced homelessness to be actively involved in all their work alongside those who are currently experiencing homelessness. With their experienced vantage point, programs are centered around public education, policy advocacy, and grassroots organizing, and are focused on the issues that immediately affect these individuals.
Homelessness is not just an urban problem—thousands of families and individuals in Colorado's small cities and towns are also affected, including the Grand Valley.
